Southwest Walleye
Club
SWA is dedicated to the advancement of the walleye fishery in Arizona and the future of fishing for our youth. While walleye are our prime interest, we stress a multi-species approach to fishing. SWA has monthly meetings with a variety of speakers who are experts in their particular skills that can provide members with useful information and specialized techniques for fishing in our desert region. Monthly fishing outings are coordinated by SWA with emphasis to accommodate those without boats. SWA has access to AZ Game and Fish who periodically attend meetings as speakers and provide regular information on current affairs affecting fishing. The SWA monthly newsletter and website keep members apprised of club activities, especially for those living out of state and others unable to attend monthly meetings. You will read about speakers for monthly meetings, plans for outings, kids fishing day, fishing shows seminars, fishing reports, and other club business. SWA sponsors the following activities: Lake Powell Trip – Every spring, the SWA takes a trip to Lake Powell for a week of fishing and camaraderie. Non-boaters are matched with different boaters each day to explore the many fishing opportunities Lake Powell has to offer. Cabela's National Team Walleye Championship – Each year, the SWA sends ten members to fish in the Cabela's National Team Walleye Championship. This tournament pits the top 250 teams from across the nation to compete for cash, prizes and national recognition. SWA is a member of the Wildlife Conservation Council. We join with over 30 other fishing, hunting and outdoor clubs to work with AZ Game and Fish and other agencies to improve the outdoor experience in Arizona. As members of SWA, you are invited to attend the monthly meetings. Help support the Wildlife Conservation Council by getting special Arizona license plates for you vehicle. The cost is $25.00 per year in addition to the normal cost. The State gets $8.00 and the Council gets $17.00, which will be used for Council projects (see www.arizonawildlifecouncil.org ).

Lake Powell Trip – April,
2008
The SWA annual Lake Powell Trip from April 26, 2008 to May 3, 2008 was attended by fifteen SWA members: John Niesen , Jack Andre, Debbie Prestage, Mike Chuck Howey, Clyde and Jeff Hoffman, Jerry . There were four fishing boats for the nine fisherman. The living quarters were at Hall's Crossing (450 miles from the valley) in large, three bedroom, two bath pre-manufactured homes. These are very spacious facilities with large living rooms and a big kitchen area. Chuck Howey did a great job coordinating the food. The bulk boxes of nightcrawlers were also very good and provided everyone plenty of live bait (minnows are not allowed on Powell for bait. Two of the dinners were freshly caught walleye and smallmouth bass. Thanks to Debbie for providing a propane, deep fryer and making a great batter to cook absolutely wonderful meals. Our Next Lake Powell Fishing Trip is scheduled for the second week in April 2009. Contact person to be named. Meanwhile, contact Chuck Howey and your messages will be forwarded.
